Three carwash workers arrested in sting

October 24, 2013
RYDE, ISLE OF WRIGHT, ENGLAND — Authorities arrested three carwash workers after they received tips that the men were illegally in the country.

The three mean were all from Albania.

Five Star Hand Car Wash was served a notice warning that a civil penalty of (p)10,000 per illegal worker would be imposed unless the business could provide proof that the individuals had the right to work in the United Kingdom, according to the story. The potential fine is (p)30,000.

The South Central Home Office Immigration and Enforcement team released the following statement regarding the arrests.

“The message to employers on the Isle of Wight who choose to use illegal labour is clear. We will catch you and you will face a heavy penalty.

“Illegal working has a negative impact on communities. It defrauds the taxpayer, undercuts honest employers and cheats legitimate job seekers out of employment opportunities.

“These arrests are also a stark warning to anyone who is in the UK illegally. We will catch up with you and you will face arrest, detention and removal from the country.

“I would urge members of the public with information about suspected immigration abuse to get in touch.”
