Researchers in Brazil come up with self-healing paint

November 1, 2013

A recent story from Inventor Spot states that certain car owners won't have to worry about fixing paint scratches, thanks to a newly-developed self-healing paint.

The story says that the paint heals itself whenever damage occurs using paint and catalyst-containing nanocapsules. "Researchers say that this paint has an efficiency of around 75 percent. The duration of the 'healing' is variable, and depends on the environmental conditions — it can take from two hours to a week," according to the story.

The research is being performed by the Instituto Senai de Inovação (Senai Innovation Institute), in Paraná, Brazil.

Still in its initial phase, the paint is expected to hit the market in at least two years.
