What kind of maintenance is required of LED lighting?

November 15, 2013

Some may wonder how LED lights, which can be expensive, can survive a carwashing environment. According to Sarah Daley, the sales and marketing manager
for G&G LED, the housing and lens of the LED lights are the most important aspects when considering how LEDs will hold up to the carwash environment. This, she said, is due to several factors. "Being that they are a variety of liquids in carwashes, such as cleaning agents, acids, and, of course, water, the fixture needs to be waterproof and also chemical proof to maximize the longevity of the LEDs," Daley said.

According to Daley, if chosen properly, the LED lights can last over 50,000 hours without any bulb changes or maintenance costs.

If you're looking into a different kind of lighting, other than LED, Daley noted that compared to the metal halides (the current industry standard in carwashes), LED lights can have an expected return on investment of 12 to 16 months for the consumer.

"This does not include the savings that can be seen from maintenance costs, bulb changes, and other costs related to repairing fixtures that aren't built to handle the harsh environment in washes," Daley said.
