Great times for California carwashes

January 30, 2014

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — “This is the best January I’ve ever had,” said wash owner Tak Chiv. In other parts of California, like Temecula and Redlands, the same sentiment is being echoed, according to the Press-Enterprise.

The lack of rain has led to more people going to the beach, and going to the carwash. “In a normal January, [we] would welcome 2,000 cars. This month, [it’s] 4,000,” said Chiv, the owner of Riverside’s Main Street Carwash.

Mike Adley, who owns Foamy Carwash, said they normally lose employees this time of year because of slow business, but not this year.  “We actually just hired five guys in the last two weeks.”

There are concerns over the drought, however. “I don’t feel that we’re going to be shut down because of it,” said Adley. “Cities will still be able to get water, but they’re going to put a hefty charge on it.”
