The other 71%
It is not a crazy notion to think that water will always be available. It does, after all, make up 71 percent of the planet. Even ocean water can be desalinized if we get desperate enough. Right? Well, it's really not that simple. And, pardon the following plea, once bellowed by hippies or environmentalists, as now we are in crisis mode and every single one of us has to do our part. This is not a joke. It's no longer a matter of futile attempts to save water. A casual approach to trying to save a drop of water here and there isn't going to cut it. Want to know how serious this water crisis is? Visit this link: http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/. Take a look at the map. See all of the red, orange and yellow? That's a wakeup call.
As we are all part of the car care industry, which relies on water, to say the least, water-saving initiatives cannot be a flippant stratagem. They need to be the backbone of your business structure.
This issue is overflowing with articles about how to save water. From reclaim equipment, to how other washes are doing their part, please use this issue as a resource and apply what you can to your wash. Even something as simple as installing a rain barrel can save 1,700 gallons of water per season. Do you have a rain barrel on your property? If you don't, why not? What are you waiting for? A rainy day? If that's the case, you could be waiting a very, long, time.
Until next time,
