Ground Breaking

Fort Lewis, WA

The Shur Kleen Car Wash chain celebrated the grand opening of the first privately-owned tunnel carwash to be built on a United States military base in Fort Lewis, WA.

Part of the negotiations between Shur Kleen and the Fort Lewis military outfit ensures that the carwash donates a monthly percentage of their after-tax income to a fund that will benefit local military families.

The tunnel is designated for washing various military vehicles onsite for troops stationed at the army base.

Denver

A new local rail-car carwash will cost approximately $33 million and hold 16 mechanic’s bays.

The new carwash is being developed for the Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) FasTracks transit expansion program which estimates that within the next few years its fleet will reach a total of 107 rail-cars.

RTD fine-tuned the expansion operation, looking at nozzles, hoses and brushes when workers did a test run with a five-car train.

Other maintenance procedures were demonstrated by maintenance and operation managers, and RTD confirmed that the southeast line is set to open in late 2006.

Ankeny, IA

Splash Car Wash, owned by Jack Stapleton, which recently opened, has six self-self bays and two touchless automatic bays; wash options can be purchased by credit cards, wash cards or through the business’s website.

It also has vacuums that encircle an 8-foot waterfall, which makes a park-like setting for customers as they clean their vehicles.

The automatic carwash services are named for precious gems: sapphire, ruby, emerald and diamond.

Worth, IL

A proposed carwash, gas station and mini-mart recently received an approval ordinance from the village board.

The Marathon Gas Station will use a portion of a nearby alley as space for cars to form a line for the carwash.

The village board is preparing for the increased traffic the site will bring. The owner of the facilities has agreed to pave and maintain the entire alley, including snow removal.

North Eugene, OR

A new auto mall and carwash unites multiple car dealers and provides needed car-care services under one roof.

Chevrolet, Honda and Acura dealerships will be housed in the Kendall Auto Mall, a 13-acre lot formerly occupied by a K-Mart.

The new mall will also have a restaurant, carwash and Internet access for customers who are waiting at any of the dealerships.

The venture will help employ 20 new workers and expand the detailing center, providing detail services on-site for all of Kendall Automotive’s operations, except for in Cottage Grove.

Bermuda

The first local automatic carwash in Bermuda, which took just over a year to build, is now open to the public.

Art Riviere is the owner of the new automated drive-thru carwash called The Bulls Head Car Wash, and is a former restaurant owner.

The new business offers a choice of three wash packages and will be open from Monday to Friday with selected hours.

Riviere’s wife and two daughters are initially helping him to run the business, but he may eventually look to hire more employees since his family has regular jobs to attend to.
