A new carwash, complete with a 100-foot tunnel, has opened here and the chairman of the town’s Economic Development Commission expects it will be a great success.
The 3,000-square-foot carwash is located behind a Starbucks, and officially opened its doors on Feb. 15.
Owner Phil Pedro spent $900,000 on the wash, designed by Belanger, Inc., which is red and yellow with checkerboard trim.
Jon Szuch, chairman of Seymour’s Economic Development Commission, said the carwash is a “much needed business for Seymour and surrounding towns.” He continued, “I expect that this business will be a gold mine and Seymour welcomes it with open arms.”

Talk about a clean break, a former Washington Mutual bank is now a carwash, thanks to owner J. Ryan Alcorn.
The former bank’s bullet-proof glass window now serves as a coffee table for the Soap Hand Car Wash and the vault has stayed in place — although it’s not clear if Alcorn is stashing his profits away inside.
Alcorn opened the carwash on Jan. 21 and his re-purposing of the building isn’t exactly an anomaly; banks in the area have become sought after real estate for commercial businesses due to widespread failure in the area’s banking sector.

The unnamed state-of-the-art carwash will be constructed across the street from a 3.5 acre landmark property which is getting new landscaping, curbs, sidewalks and decorative fencing. A community living center is being looked at for that property.
