I’m not going to lie, I’ve pretty much enjoyed every minute of my position as editor since I signed on a few months ago…that is…until now. That’s right, folks, I’m only three issues in, and I’m already seeking out sympathetic reassurance. But, I cannot emphasize enough how difficult the past week has been; and that is because I was presented with the task of choosing the Most Valuable Carwasher (MVC) from a pool of worthwhile and wonderful contenders.
As the nominations started flowing in April, I noticed a common denominator amongst the consortium that made them all worthy of the top honor. That common denominator was and is their desire to put forth great effort and enthusiasm on a daily basis. Every single nominee was worthy of being recognized, and I wish I could choose them all or just throw a dart and have it land on the ultimate honoree, but, alas, I had to choose one, and with all of the impartial and rational might I could muster, I made a decision.

Along with numerous other attributes, this person seemed to demonstrate a keen sense of responsibility; but, what stood out in his nomination form, submitted by a co-worker, was that he would often take on tasks that were not “under his realm of responsibility” to ensure that everything is done properly. We all know that in order to do a good job we need to do our job; but, often times, it is when someone steps up and is willing to work outside their designated lines, that a true sense of teamwork, camaraderie and better throughput is achieved.
As for all of the other nominees and nominators, please know that all of your submissions were equally valued and admired. Not a single nomination form was ever disregarded and I tip my hat to all of you. And, please, be sure to re-submit your candidates next year. Although, to avoid any bouts of guilt, I might just be on vacation when it comes time to make the final decision.
