♦ The International Carwash Association acknowledged several operators and vendors at this year’s Car Care World Expo, held May 12-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. They were:
• Gary Hirsh, president of New Wave Industries, Environmental Leadership Award.
• Jan Van Kessel, owner of Kesseltronics, Brian Campbell Innovation Award.
• Mike Mountz, founder and CEO of Cloister Car Wash, Carwash Hall of Fame.

♦ Istobal SA, has formed a new company, Istobal USA Corp.
The company will be located in West Palm Beach, FL, and will be responsible for marketing, sales and technical support for the U.S. and Canada.
Kevin Collette, co-founder of Integrated, has been named president.
♦ Rytec Corporation has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Wynd Star Doors.
Rytec, a manufacturer of doors, currently reaches into industrial, commercial pharmaceutical and cold-storage applications, and this new agreement extends its reach into the car care business world. Wynd Star is an Ohio-based company which specializes in automatic doors for the carwash industry.
♦ Cloister Wash & Lube will now sell a complete line of soaps and chemicals exclusively through Kleen-Rite Corporation.
Cloister Formula, as the line is being called, is the result of 25 years of formulation at Cloister’s four Pennsylvania washes, which incorporate conveyor, in-bay automatic and self-serve operations. Shore Corporation, a Pittsburgh, PA-based chemical manufacturer, worked closely with Cloister on the formulas.
♦ Mark VII Equipment Inc. is extending its direct operations into Canada. The U.S. subsidiary of WashTec AG, a global manufacturer of carwash equipment, has previously launched direct operations in Australia and in select U.S. markets.
Direct operations in Canada will be carried out by a newly established subsidiary of Mark VII and the company will establish local sales and service platforms over the next few months. The operations will focus on major oil companies and/or larger operating chains, including a cooperation agreement with Shell Canada.
♦ Genix Automation Pvt Ltd, a maker of automation solutions, has now come out with a touchless automatic carwash system.
The FourWin system has already been installed at Food Hub on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and will soon be introduced in housing developments, gas stations, and malls throughout India.
♦ QC Pacific, a distributor of carwash supplies and solutions, has partnered with KAZU, a marketing agency, to provide custom marketing services to its customers.
QC Pacific is now able to create new custom menu boards and towers, as well as updated logos and targeted press releases which help educate the community about the positive environmental aspects of commercial carwashes.
♦ The Western Carwash Association (WCA) hosted a day of education and networking for carwash owners and operators the DoubleTree Berkeley Marina on June 10.
The event included a session detailing the labor standards for the carwash industry in California. Eric Rod, assistant chief of Bureau of Field Enforcement for California presented the seminar that explained how operators can comply with the law and avoid fines.
An afternoon session was aimed at helping operators comply with California laws and was presented by the California Employer’s Association, which offered “real-world” advice for carwash owners on complying with federal and state employment laws.
