United States Veterans and active-duty members came out on Veteran's Day for a free carwash offered at any of the local Hoffman Car Wash sites.
At the Colonie, NY location, general manager Dave Henderson said the company saw roughly 40 percent of Friday's business coming from veterans taking advantage of the charity offering.
A number of carwash chains also held similar charities Friday, including all locations under Cloister Car Wash & Lube, Wash Depot Holdings, Inc. and Splash, LLC.
Mace Security International, Inc., a manufacturer of security products and operator of car and truck wash facilities, has announced an increase in profits for its wash division.
Mace reported that revenues from its car and truck wash segment increased by approximately $1.2 million, or 3.8 percent, for the first nine months of 2005 compared to the same period in 2004.
Constitution Lube Inc., a Wethersfield-based four-man partnership has acquired all 18 Jiffy Lube outlets in Connecticut from Jiffy Lube International, parent of the national chain of oil change and care-care service outlets.
Constitution Lube employs about 200 people at its 18 Connecticut locations, and would eventually like to establish locations in other major cities like New Haven and Meriden, Stamford, Norwalk and other Fairfield County towns.
Longtime carwash industry contributor Wade Young passed away on Nov. 1, 2005 after 40 years in the carwash industry.
Young, who died at the age of 61, first started working in carwashing as a line worker at one of Dan Hanna's carwashes in Portland, OR, in 1962.

7-Eleven, Inc., has announced that Joseph M. DePinto has been named the new president and CEO of the company effective Dec. 1, 2005, taking Keyes place.
DePinto will oversee all strategic, operational and financial aspects of the company.
Carwash supplier Unitec Electronics has added Robert Patterson as its strategic accounts manager in the corporate accounts department.
Patterson joins Unitec with carwash ownership experience, and previously worked at Cisco Systems as a channel account manager.
The Car Care Council Women's Board has announced that Jennifer Tio has been named the second annual Aftermarket Woman of the Year.
Tio was chosen by the Women's Board executive committee based on her longevity in the aftermarket, her career accomplishments, her leadership capabilities and dedication to the automotive aftermarket industry.
