As the carwash industry expands to become increasingly versatile, more investors and carwash owners are interested in learning what the Automotive Oil Change Association (AOCA) is cooking up in San Diego for this year’s 2006 AOCA convention and fast lube expo.

Professional Carwashing & Detailing® magazine hailed down AOCA President Sue Ackley to get the inside scoop on all of the exciting activities planned for 2006.

PC&D: You’ve moved the expo to San Diego, a popular spot in the spring. What are the predicted attendance numbers for 2006?

Sue Ackley: We expect to have over 1,300 attendees this year. It should be a well-attended show.

PC&D: What special events has the AOCA planned for 2006?

SA: This year our grand party will be at a Comedy Theater & Sports Bar. It should be an excellent opportunity for everyone to kick-back and have some fun.

PC&D: The expo looks to be packed with plenty of educational opportunities and seminars. What are your suggestions for attendees?

SA: They all look great this year. Here are a few of my favorites: “How to Get a Bigger Piece of the Growing Commercial Customer Base”; “Creating Exceptional Service,” given by US Learning Inc.; and, "Hybrids & Smart Cars" given by the Ford Motor Company.

PC&D: Who will give this year’s keynote address?

SA: Our guest speaker this year is John Walsh from America’s Most Wanted. It’s a very inspiring story.

PC&D: What else can you tell us about this year’s convention?

SA: A must will be our “Town Hall” on Sunday where everyone will have a chance to hear about the current state of the automotive service business.
