A few words of caution: Many clear-coated wheels will have rock chips in the clear-coat, or may already have started to flake off. You must be aware of this before choosing your cleaning procedure because if the wheel is aluminum or magnesium, and the clear-coat is chipped or flaking off, certain cleaners may cause problems. So, you must inspect each wheel for clear-coat damage.

In some cases, wheel acid can get under the chipped clear-coat and cause it to flake off. It is important to inspect all four wheels in the presence of the customer to ensure there is no damage. If there is damage, the customer can acknowledge this by signing the work order that indicates the damage.
