CARY, NC — A community college here is offering scholarships to help displaced tobacco workers cover the cost of training to become an auto detailer, The Cary News reported.
The Feb. 22 story stated that Wake Tech Community College can pay up to $500 per student, and the college has already awarded scholarships to nine students.
The retraining courses last 10 weeks, and at the current rate more than 50 students could qualify for the scholarships.
The courses cost $175 each, but students may quality for additional funds, depending on their financial need.
The scholarships come from a $10,000 grant the college received from the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.
