HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA — Two students of Saint Mary’s University here started an award-winning detail business as a class assignment, TheChronicleHerald.ca reported.

The Jan. 9 story stated that the two classmates were assigned to take $10 and launch a business.

“We were in a class called Structuring the Start-Up,” Kaitlyn Touesnard said in the article. “Not knowing what we wanted to do, we started going house-to-house asking people what service or product they would want. Most people had no idea, but then we thought of car detailing. When we asked people after that, they seemed to like the idea.”

Tousenard’s father had detailed cars in the past, so they visited with him for the weekend and received some training, the story noted.

Perfect Finish Auto Detailing was the result, and the business went on to win the 2010 What’s the Big Idea business competition sponsored by the university’s business development center.
