Writing for the $3 carwash concept
In the Detroit area, where my washes are located, the $3 carwash is not hurting the market — it's just not the case.
I think in this area, our wash is in the middle of two different types of thinking, between say the $2 carwash and full-service or hand wash.
I'm not saying that the $3 wash is necessarily helping the market upward, but we're not pulling it down either. There is enough of a diverse customer base to support a $3 carwash without hurting the rest of the industry.
Writing in opposition of the $3 carwash concept
I know some people who are successfully doing a $3 discount carwash, but I don't think they're doing it that well. Unless you're a company that's been doing it for a long time, or can support it from something like gas, you're missing out on the profit.
It's a great thing to say that you wash 15,000 to 20,000 cars a month, but if you're not making any money, then the numbers don't matter.
You can't make up business just with volume, because all you do is end up losing more money.
