- Got A Question?
Mike’s Car Wash currently has 31 locations in Indiana and Ohio, and while Dahm hopes the chain will continue growing, he wants to ensure that its strong reputation of excellent customer service is maintained.
Professional Carwashing & Detailing: Is there anything new going on with Mike’s?
BD: Yes, we actually have a new service — a tire shine that is being offered at all of our locations. It will be automatically put on the cars as they are going through the tunnel. We’re very excited about it.
PC&D: What are some of your future goals for Mike’s?
BD: To keep growing at a controllable pace. We have no interest in growing at a pace where we can’t keep our reputation. We are known for recruiting, motivating and hiring quality managers.
If we can’t continue to find the type of managers that we enjoy working with, that will help us keep our customer service reputation, we’ll just quit growing.
But one of our goals is slow controlled growth — maybe three locations a year.
PC&D: How do you select your managers?
BD: We cultivate them. Most of our managers, more than half of them actually, were internally promoted.
We also have a full time recruiter that searches the market place by going to other businesses to solicit managers, attending job fairs and visiting colleges.
We’ve got a very distinct profile that we look for when hiring managers. They’re extremely hard to find, but they’re out there.
PC&D: What are some of the main things you teach your managers?
BD: All of our training is built around our customer service model, which is the whole premise of our business. Most of our training has to do with soft skills, including how people like to be treated when they spend their money.
