Business: 5-Star Car Wash & Detail Center

Type: Full service carwash with complete detail services, including paint re-conditioning.

Owner(s): Bill Proestler

Location: Vacaville, CA, and Fairfield, CA

Year opened: The Fairfield location opened in June of 1998 and Vacaville in November 2007

The carwashes are both full serves and offer complete detailing services.

Equipment/chemicals: Fairfield has Hanna equipment and the new Vacaville carwash has a Belanger tunnel. Both washes use CSI (Lustra) chemicals.

Unique features: The new Vacaville location requires no prep before the tunnel process. Traffic flow is very important to the site’s success and it was carefully designed to eliminate bottlenecks and maximize efficiency.

Staff: The total company employs between 55-60 people. This includes four supervisors, four managers and several service writers.

Volume (per year): Volume was down in 2008. Proestler attributed the decrease to poor economic conditions affecting not only carwashes, but most other service industries as well.

Pricing: Prices range from $9.99 for an exterior wash only with no extras to $23.99 for the top wash with several packages in between.

Customer payment options: The washes acccept all major credit cards and also offer gift cards.

Of note: “We operate in a very competitive environment and are always searching for improvement in all areas of our business,” Proestler said.

Both washes use CSI (Lustra) chemicals.
