Do you know an employee who goes the extra mile? One who showcases exceptional customer service skills? Or how about one who consistently does good work and encourages fellow employees to do the same? If you do, you should consider submitting them for the 2011 Most Valuable Carwasher (MVC) award. For the past 20 years, Professional Carwashing & Detailing has asked its readers to submit nominations for the award which recognizes the top on-site workers, service technicians, detailers or office managers from any car care industry segment.
How to submit
Those who wish to submit nominations can e-mail me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Nominations will be accepted until May 23.
Please include the name of the nominee, his or her specific job responsibility, and the name and location of the business. Using about 500 words, go into detail about why this person deserves the award.
The winner will be announced and featured in the July 2011 issue of Professional Carwashing & Detailing magazine, as well as on our website. He or she will also be awarded at the Western Carwash Association Convention & Tradeshow being held October 17-19, 2011, in San Diego.
The 2010 recipient
Last year, Sandra Silvestre, manager of Valencia AutoSpa in Valencia, CA, was named the 2010 MVC. “I’m speechless,” Silvestre said of winning the award.
Although Silvestre herself was surprised at the nomination, her boss and co-workers were not. “Sandra has an incredible way of motivating and elevating her employees,” which at any time includes 40 to 45 staff members, according to nominator Randy Cressall, owner, Valencia AutoSpa.
“On a daily basis one will find Sandra interacting with her employees, building an individual rapport with each and every one of them. She calls this her ‘tailgate’ talks,” Cressall continued.
“Sometimes they take place in the break area. Sometimes they take place on the tailgate of a pickup truck. She knows the names and ages of each of her employee’s spouses and children.”
For Silvestre, the connection to her staff and her customers comes naturally. She began working for Valencia AutoSpa 10 years ago as an assistant manager for the convenience store and gas lanes, before moving on to a position that has her overseeing the entire carwash. “I just love coming to work here, seeing my customers, seeing all my co-workers…maybe that’s the key,” she said of winning the award.
