I’m always ready for some football

Yes! Finally! Amen and hallelujah! Football season is here and not a moment too soon. I don’t know about you, but it feels like the past few weeks have been a long, tiring and tough haul. I have never had to work so hard just to avoid the chores piled up on my “Honey, do!” list. Honestly, I was completely out of ideas for procrastinating. How many rainy days could I realistically expect? How often could I “misplace” the exact tool I needed for the job? I don’t know how I did it, but I can proudly report that the fence is still unpainted, that storm window is still cracked and I haven’t touched the lawnmower in weeks.

But, forced procrastination is now a thing of the past. Football season is ready to provide all the excuses that any fan could ever need. As the weather turns chilly and the nights grow longer, my wonderful wife of almost 12 years knows exactly what to expect. Whenever UAB football is losing a game on TV or one of my prominent fantasy football players is on the field, I will be completely sedentary and absolutely worthless.

Thankfully, few carwash owners seem to follow my lead. In fact, some actually use football as a way to generate more business for their washes. This week, while searching for eNews stories (updated daily on our industry-leading website,!), a story about Kwik Kar Wash’s special football offerings popped up in my browser.

According to, Kwik Kar Wash, for the third year in a row, is sponsoring two local high school football teams: the Flower Mount Jaguars and the Marcus Marauders. “The football programs are an integral part of the social fabric here in Flower Mound, and being huge community supporters, we want to do everything we can to back our students and their families,” Bill Mitchell, owner of Kwik Kar, said in the story. “We have championed the schools in our area for years, and we think it’s always better if you can add a little fun and fellowship along the way.”

Fans that attend Friday night football games in Flower Mound this season will be treated to free Red, Hot & Blue food in a special hospitality tent sponsored by Kwik Kar Wash and Kwik Kar Lube & Auto Repair. But the football offerings don’t stop there. During halftime, high school seniors will run a dot race to win a $250 scholarship sponsored by Kwik Kar. And, everyone in the stands has the chance to leave with a $10 coupon good for a carwash or oil change, the story noted.

Instead of impersonal Internet offers and anonymous print ads, Mitchell is putting his business’s name out there again and again by sponsoring these high school football games. During the games, the Kwik Kar Wash name will reach hundreds of potential customers across a number of age groups. Further, the sponsorship will build goodwill for the carwash in the community. These offerings sound like a great way to actually reach potential customers that are used to tuning out TV, radio and print ads.

After learning about the thought and work that Kwik Kar Wash put into their football promotions, I almost feel guilty about my persistent pigskin procrastination. Well, almost anyway. I mean, surely I can put off raking leaves until after the Superbowl, right?
