Blog: Make it impossible to fail
How clear and compelling to your employees is your vision statement?
Also, do your greeters, cashiers and other front-line team members know how important their mission is?
Finally, have you equipped them with the proper training, tools and skills necessary so that they can excel in their different positions?
Operators might be tempted to discount the importance of articulating a clear statement of the most basic task at hand; what is the true purpose of your business?
But in business, as in war, giving your team a concise objective can mean the difference between a great success and a disheartening failure.
Perhaps the best example of how a powerful vision statement could motivate an army of well-trained achievers is General Eisenhower’s short, five-paragraph Order of the Day, from June 6, 1944, D-Day.
To the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force, Eisenhower said, “The eyes of the world are upon you….I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory.”
Three words summarize Eisenhower’s historic and clearly understood orders: plan, invade, conquer.
Of course, the General never wanted his troops to consider the possibility of failure.
As a successful business owner, you must embrace that empowering sentiment too.
Though your goal and mission is vastly different for your team of high achievers, these three words will describe their focus: train, execute, serve.
Individuals who are dedicated to a mission, have been trained in the basics, and are inspired by a visionary leader can overcome any number of obstacles.
Make it your personal mission this summer that your carwash team can not fail!!
