Blog: Another bold prediction I nailed!

Readers will remember last year I correctly predicted the winners of both the 2012 Presidential election, and the Super Bowl.

My streak continues!

This past Saturday, in an attempt to comfort an anxious Auburn fan, I commented to Zep’s Matt Nall, that special teams are generally overlooked in all the pre-game hype and reporting.  I mentioned then, with brilliant insight, that I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a special teams’ play break the Alabama-Auburn game wide open.

Little did I know at the time, of course, that an ill-advised 57 yard field goal attempt by Alabama would fall predictably short, and would result in an astonishing, game-ending (and game-winning!) 109 yard return by Auburn.

In good conscience, I cannot fault Nick Saban, the superb Alabama coach, for any faulty decision-making.  The best coaches always demonstrate supreme confidence in their teams, and want to allow them to make key plays.  Play makers in every sport simulate making just these types of breath-taking, game-winning plays every day in practice.

As a carwash owner, you too want to coach every member of your team to be committed to making a 110 percent effort every day to achieve their goals, even under less than ideal circumstances.

Under your inspired leadership and direction, most days you and your team will be clear-cut winners.

Celebrate these glorious days and hard-fought victories always.

Because some days, inevitably, you will also be heart-broken learners.

And it is in this painful learning process, the careful and needed rebuilding of your team’s indomitable spirit, where true champions are always made.

Saban is tackling this huge restoration task now.  Indeed, it is at moments like these, when he and other high-profile coaches truly earn their seven-figure pay checks.

Do not be ashamed or shattered, then, when your wash is in need of some repair.

Even the best coached teams will stumble when it is least expected.
