I got to thinking recently about how times have changed. I mean, today’s world is so very different. Just look at man’s best friend. Dogs have been a big part of our lives for a long, long time. Early dogs were farm dogs. They existed to guard their owner’s property and to protect livestock. I hate to call them a tool, but in general terms, that is what a farm dog was. That isn’t to say that the dog wasn’t a beloved part of the family, but it was just different. Fast forward a few decades and dogs became pets. They served the purpose of fetching balls and providing entertainment for families. Families welcomed them into their homes and they became a different — more intimate, perhaps — part of the family. Today, dogs are so much more than pets. They are our kids, our blood.

The hand knit sweaters, painted toe nails, and Halloween costumes tell of this again and again. I mean, how many pups appeared on your news feeds with Easter bunny ears on over the weekend? My point exactly. It isn’t a bad thing. Pets have become our personal entertainment. We dress them and nurture them and keep them from harm. Pet washes are just another way to facilitate this family entertainment. A safe, easy way to wash your dog together that is fun and has just a hint of entertainment value. Sure, the roles have been reversed in most ways — we look after our pets, where they once looked after us. But it is fun and hey, that is why security companies exist today, right? Here’s to man’s best friend — watchdog and bunny ear wearing breeds alike.
