WHEN BUILDING A NEW CARWASH IN THE NORTHEAST(4 SELF SERVE BAYS AND AN AUTOMATIC) IS IT IMPERATIVE TO PUT INSULATION DOWN BETWEEN THE RADIANT TUBING AND THE GROUND? I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS IMPERATIVE GIVEN THE HEAT LOSS THAT YOU WOULD ENCOUNTER WITHOUT THE INSULATION AND ONE COMPANY IS ADAMENT THAT THERE IS NO NEED FOR INSULATION. ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
I have to disagree with the last two posts. If you insulate under the tubes and cement pad, you will not heat the ground under the slab, and you will reduce the energy cost of using your floor heating system.
Spend a little more now, and save it every month your boiler is on.
I would suggest not using the barrier. In the car wash enviornment we want to prevent ice. If you heat the ground and the concrete you will get the best end result out of the heating system. If you install the barrier, you will deflect all of the heat to go up and out of the concrete.
I would contact GDH to get this information. They have manufactured carwash equipment for over 30 years. They have also installed many floor heat systems so they would now exactly what you need to do. They will probably give you a great deal on the equipment to....they did me. I installed a 6 bay s/s with Grant-Dilling-Harris equipment and has been the Ferrari of my 3 washes. I'm about to build another wash with their equipment as well. Ask for Josh in sales....he's has really taken care of me. GDH @ 800-767-3531 or www.dilling-harris.com
GOOD LUCK!!!
