LOS ANGELES — According to www.dailybreeze.com, WildWater Express Carwash warned customers that sensitive credit card information may have been stolen by a hacker when the carwash’s computer system was breached in February.
The hacker installed malware on a point-of-sale (POS) system, the article noted, which granted him or her access to names, card numbers and PIN numbers from Feb. 10-28.
A third-party provider operates the payment system and was the victim of the intrusion, the article stated, but that company states that the malware was removed and that they are monitoring the payment system for any other signs of hacking.
In response, WildWater is offering its customers one year of free credit monitoring and has asked patrons to inform their credit and debit card companies of the possible risk.
