Improper window tinting a safety issue and problem for police

NEWFOUNDLAND — Law enforcement recently issued numerous tickets for violations of the Highway Traffic Act.

NEWFOUNDLAND — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) issued 68 tickets in a one month period for illegal window tinting on the island of Newfoundland, according to VOCM.com.

Law enforcement says extra films added are safety hazards, and any after-market modification to window tinting could earn residents a ticket, states the article.

Constable Steve Curnew says the film prevents windshield glass from breaking properly. The glass is designed to break into small pieces, but the improper film means that during an accident, a person may become trapped inside a car, said the article.

The article notes that drivers can go to nearly any detailing shop to have their windows properly tinted.
