CAPITOLA, NM — Mayor Stephanie Harlan made a statement to city council members last week, warning them about fundraiser carwashes, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported.
The May 30 story quoted the mayor who sad, "The soapy water goes right down the street."
Public Works Director Steve Jesberg wants to "reclassify a position to comply with mandates of the federal Clean Water Act," the story said. City Manager Jamie Goldstein said they've been talking about doing this for a long time.
Carwashes participate in Protect our Environment event
Now, the city has full say over permitting responsibilities from the county Zone 5 Flood Control & Water Conservation District and now the city will comply with state standards instead of county ones.
