SHELTON, CT — It’s been more than four years and Splash Car Wash still hasn’t been granted permission to open a fast lube business the company originally planned for this location, according to The Connecticut Post.
Splash is among the 50 largest conveyor carwash chains in the United States.
The Oct. 14 story said the company’s attorney is concerned the city is going to put the carwash out of business by denying approval to add the oil and lube services.
"None of the denials have been based on any planning or zoning issues," said attorney Dominick Thomas told the commission recently. "My client was of the opinion that he would be able to offer full services that include oil and lube,” but was told to wait six months to see if any problems developed at the site, Thomas said. "It's now been four years and two denials."
According to Thomas’s statements in the article, the large building was intended to accommodate both a full-serve carwash and an oil/lube business and without the additional profits from the oil/lube services the company may not be able to survive.
According to the article, several members of the public came forward to support Splash’s original application four years ago, which Thomas pointed out is a rarity for such applications.
The article said the planning and zoning commission is expected to debate the issue next month.
