BROOKFIELD, IL — The Brookfield Express Car Wash is now open again for business after being closed for three months for $1.5 million worth of renovations, which included the implementation of a new 80-foot-long automatic wash tunnel, according to the Riverside-Brookfield Landmark.
The July 27 story said William Klump decided to offer free washes for the July 16 reopening, thinking he would get in a few hundred cars. Instead he got 3,000.
"We were quickly overwhelmed by the response," Klump said in the story. "I did what any sane person would do, I called my sisters, Patti and Kathleen. They arrived with husbands, kids, even my mom in tow.
Klump said a total of 30 family members showed up to help out.
According to PC&D, Klump had been trying to renovate the carwash since 2009, but plans had been put on hold due to a delay in paperwork being processed by Cook County.
