MERCED, Calif. — The Merced City Council will meet on Monday to discuss potential water restrictions, including outdoor watering and a new carwash rule, according to The Modesto Bee.
The carwash ordinance would create a situation where wash fundraisers would need to capture the water used for vehicles, which would force them to partner up with commercial carwashes, according to the article.

The Director of Water Resources in Merced, Michael Wegley, said at-home washes do not regulate water use, and lead to liquids running off into storm drains. Fines for violating the proposal would range from $50 to $150.
Gov. Jerry Brown called for a 20 percent reduction in water use in California in January, when he declared a drought.
