LOS ANGELES ― The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) has filed a lawsuit against several carwashes here under the claims that workers were mistreated, and denied payments and breaks, a PRESSTV story reported.
The May 21 report stated that the named "southern California carwashes have committed numerous labor violations that have resulted in thousands of hours of free labor."
Maria Elena Durazo, executive director of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, stated that the fight for fair treatment has been going on for years and many companies think they can get away with the mistreatment because workers are often undocumented immigrants.

"MALDEF officials say it’s important that these workers know that they don’t have to be treated like slaves, regardless of their legal status," the story said.
