WICHITA FALLS, Kan. — City councilors have approved amendments to allow carwashes to continue to use city water despite low lake levels, according to Texomashomepage.com.
A previous ordinance banned carwashes from using city water if lake levels hit 20 percent, said the article. Carwashes are still required to close on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Before voting, city officials met behind closed doors for one hour to discuss the issue, reported the article. Many carwash owners and one resident spoke in favor of the amendment.

The owner of Stadium Car Wash shared in the article, “We are very concerned that 29.5 percent of our business has been taken by the government by closing us two days a week.”
Councilor Michael Smith and Mayor Glenn Barham voted against the amendment, saying carwashes are not alone in dealing with restrictions, noted the article.
The measure passed with a 4-to-2 vote, with one council member absent from the meeting.
