Bubbles’ business popped by pedestrian traffic

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA — The neighborhood has evolved from a driving destination.

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA — Bubbles is closing one of its oldest carwash locations due to conflicts with traffic and pedestrians, the Edmonton Journal reported.

The Jan. 8 story quoted Bubbles COO Natasha Toffoli who said, “Operating a carwash on Whyte Avenue is very difficult, given back alley space and delivery vehicles. [Also], every vehicle that goes out of the tunnel needs to go past where people walk … on the sidewalk.”

Road widening to affect carwash

There has been a carwash at the address for at least 50 years. Time Car Wash first showed up in the 1963 city directory. The wash then became Splash ‘n’ Dash in the 1970s.

Toffoli’s father bought the wash in 1980, and it became the first outlet in the current 11-location Bubbles chain. Over the decades, the neighborhood has evolved from a driving destination to a place people walk.

C-store/carwash pushes for oversized sign

According to a local real estate company, redevelopment of the site will create a one-story building with room for four shops and parking in the rear. It appears that the opening is scheduled for 2014.
