Trust and credibility are very strong words. These are two words that you definitely want to have associated with your car wash. But how do you do that? How do you get your customers and potential customers to have that trust and for your business to be a creditable one? There are a few things that you can do to build trust and credibility.

First, we need to define the difference between the two. Trust is a reliance or confidence in a business. Credibility is the quality of being believable or worthy of trust.

People first need to have trust in your company in order for them to feel confident in the experience that they are going to have. But how do you build that trust?

Build Brand Awareness. By raising awareness in the community of your business, people will be more likely to buy from you compared to a car wash that they don’t recognize. Brand awareness gives the consumer the perception that there is less risk in using your services.

Have a Clear Message. Make sure that people know what you stand for. Whether it’s focusing on service, performance or using only environmentally friendly systems or chemicals, be sure to promote this message to current and potential customers.

To build credibility, people have to have a reason to believe in your business. How do you gain that credibility?

Give Your Company’s History. Providing the background of a car wash. Whether it was family owned from the start or brand new, giving a little history will help consumers feel more comfortable with your company. Let consumers know if you are an environmentally friendly car wash. Also, share major milestones, special events, awards, etc.

Testimonials. Ask customers to provide testimonials if they have or have had a pleasant experience. There is no one better than a satisfied customer to let potential customers know they can have a pleasant experience as well.

Listen to Your Customers. Customers want to be heard. If they had a bad experience, don’t hide from it. Fix it. Do what you can to correct the issue and to make sure the customer leaves satisfied.

These are just a few steps you can take to help your company build the trust and credibility that will in turn increase revenues.

Establish and reinforce a structured approach to carwash operations.

When I started in the carwash industry in the early 2000s, an ownership group with five to 10 carwashes was considered a large operation. A few groups had 30-100 washes and were considered “rock stars” in the industry. With the advent of technology and available capital, many ownership groups now control hundreds of washes, and a few aspire for that magical 1,000 location goal. The business model of the exterior express carwash allows for operational processes that allow chains to operate at a high level. But, not every carwash chain achieves this goal.

Technology prioritization and selection are critical in generating consistent service, scale and efficiencies to your business.
