VALPARAISO, Ind. — Family Express Corp. recently completed an efficiency upgrade to its entire fleet of stores, according to an article on csdecision.com.
After realizing HVAC units and lights were requiring excessive maintenance, the company evaluated its energy use over about a three-year period. Upgrades were made to lighting, HVAC and more using the latest technologies.
In the article, Vice President Facilities and IT Gregory Laroux said in its 40 years of operation, the company had never taken a “strategic approach to energy management until [it] made a strategic decision to completely revamp [its] energy performance.”
The company spent about $2.5 million making the upgrades, and it has already seen a 25 percent average reduction in kilowatt hours. The article says Family Express expects to see a return on investment in three to six years.
The decision to make the far-reaching upgrades was also focused on creating a consistent brand.
“We also recognized that the various generational lighting treatments that were present in our chain were inconsistent and were creating an unacceptable presentation for our brand image,” Laroux explained in the article.
