Well, it’s been a heck of a run, but all good things must come to an end. Yep, it’s time for CarWash College to pack our bags (and equipment) and make the move east from Irvine, California, to Phoenix, Arizona.
Our original plan was to host our first class in our new facility in August of this year. I usually take direction pretty well, but when I looked and saw the average temperature in Phoenix in August is a hundred billion degrees, I had to convince my higher ups to delay the first class until November to make sure the facility was ready. It worked. Whew! Crisis averted, at least for one year anyway!
I know what you’re thinking, and I’ve heard it all already. You’re thinking that because I live in Florida, where not only is it unbearably hot in summer, but it’s also oppressively humid, that I should look forward to the “dry heat” of the desert. It’s a different kind of heat, I’ve heard more than once. I get it. To each his own, but give me the humidity any day of the week over the dry heat of the desert.
I’ve spent time in both climates, and I can’t ever recall a time getting a nosebleed (without being in a bar fight) in a humid climate. Not true for the desert.
I can’t recall my skin drying up and beginning to crack as my plane touches down in a humid environment. Again, not true for the desert.
I’ve never been told on a flight out of a humid climate that it’s too hot to take off. It happens in the desert.
Having said all of that, I also can’t express in words just how excited I am about the new facility we are opening in Phoenix! I’ll miss going to California and the beautiful weather there, but the tradeoff for the weather is a brand new facility with a larger classroom, full size tunnel, and a “wet room” to make adjustments to foamers, all with that new carwash equipment smell!
Life is full of compromises. I’ll take a brand-new facility with all the latest toys over nice weather any day of the week. Especially since I just learned the whole 77,000 square feet of the new building is climate-controlled.
I hope to see you in a CarWash College classroom soon. You choose the climate!
