CHICAGO — Many remember carwashes and the 1975 disco hit, but they began in the modern form in 1914, according to Forbes.
The advent of the modern wash started in Detroit. “Prior to this, car cleaning was largely done individually by hand. What started as a niche business in the Motor City has become a global industry,” said the ICA.
Presently, there are over 150,000 carwashes in the world, according to the association. The ICA annual event takes place at the end of March into early April.
The ICA has a special Facebook page honoring 100 years.
