Carwash reopens … then closes again

WEST HAVERSTRAW, NY — The 9W Auto Wash had to close following Hurricane Sandy, and has closed again due to another storm.

WEST HAVERSTRAW, NY — The Route 9W carwash, co-owned by Jeff Ross, was shut down last year following Superstorm Sandy, but was able to reopen last June. Now, it has shut down again, due to another storm, a lohud.com story reported.

The Aug. 10 story said a thunderstorm last Thursday caused trees to fall into the carwash's roof and damage electrical wires.

“It’s terrible because I want to be in business,” Ross said in the story. “Everything was put in, all new stuff. We got everything approved and reopened full time June 4. And here we go again.”

Hurricane Sandy also brought trees crashing down onto the business last October. It took the owners more than six months to rebuild and reopen.

Storm rips roof off carwash

According to West Haverstraw Building Inspector George Behn, the carwash's building was flooded and the structure was damaged during last Thursday's storm. “He was hit hard during Sandy. He just got back and running in June,” Behn said in the story. “I feel sorry for him.”

The carwash's other owner, David Koenig, said in the story, “I thought no way this would happen again … Hopefully we can soon get back and running.”
