ABU DHABI, UAE — Officials here ran a two-day campaign against washing cars in front of houses, gulfnews.com reported.
The Sept. 9 story stated that residents were reminded that home washing is against local health regulations. This type of washing can cause water waste and affect the “urban outlook” of the city.
The campaign resulted in 53 warnings to residents, and several cases of home carwashing were reported.
Khalifa Al Rumaithi, director of public health for Abu Dhabi City, said in the story, “It will cause waterlogged streets which in turn would trigger subsidence of the asphalt pavement as a result of the accumulated water, and create a breeding ground for mosquitoes and insects.”
The city will follow up the warnings served to offenders, and if a violation is repeated, an instant fine will be issued.
