Company’s matte finish requires special attention

WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ — The dull-finish paints could be mistaken for a high-end, aftermarket repaint or a vinyl car wrap.

WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ — BMW has introduced a new factory exterior paint collection of “frozen” matte colors, according to cars.com. The dull-finish paints could be easily mistaken for a high-end, aftermarket customer repaint or vinyl wrap.

The Nov. 13 story stated that the paint does not require as much maintenance as regular finishes. BMW cautions that waxes and polishes can damage the paint and give an unwanted shine to the dull luster.

Which products are best for paint finishes?

Further, buffing with a machine or the wrong product will create shine spots and uneven surfaces. Nothing even mildly abrasive is recommended for this type of paint either, so glazes, compounds and quick detailers cannot be used.

Hand washing is recommended, and BMW suggested its own brand of car shampoo, bug remover and sheepskin wash mitt. Microfiber cloths should not be used on the paint and excessive rubbing is not recommended.

The most important step of maintaining this paint is keeping the surface free of contaminants. The bug remover is recommended immediately after any insects, tree sap, bird droppings, tar and oils touch the paint.
