County board says “no” to carwash/gas station

FRANKFORT TOWNSHIP, IL ― One homeowner said, “I’m delighted. We don’t have to worry about the health effects.”

FRANKFORT TOWNSHIP, IL ― The Will County Board here voted against a zoning change and three special-use permits that a proposed carwash and gas station needed to open here, the Southtown Star reported.

The March 21 story said the multi profit center was met with a lot of opposition from nearby residents. A petition to block the carwash received 700 signatures.

“I’m delighted,” homeowner Cynthia Schroeder said in the story. “We don’t have to worry about the health effects.”

Schroeder citied studies which link gasoline and diesel fuel fumes to illnesses.

Homeowner Linda Arnold echoed Schroeder's statements. “I am so glad that the board stood behind the constituents and did their due diligence and protected the people of the county,” Arnold said in the story.  “…They fought for the safety of the children and the families.”

Attorney Lyman Tieman and his client, developer Leonard McEnery, was willing to follow over 30 special conditions to appease the neighbors. But the Board voted 15 to 10 to not allow it to be built.
