LONDON, Ontario — Local detailer Scott Perkin, CD SV, was part of a detailing team that restored the exterior of the Freedom One aircraft, according to a press release.
Perkin spent Feb. 9-11 at PIMA Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona, working on the aircraft, stated the release. Jose Fernandez of Superior Shine Auto Detailing in Arcadia, California, led the project.
The Boeing 707 brought 52 American hostages home from Iran on January 20, 1981 after 444 days of captivity. “It also returned American military personnel home after being freed at the end of the Persian Gulf War,” shared the release.
AutoGeek.com supported the project with a video of the restoration, reported the release, and Meguiar’s provided $2,000 worth of products. AutoGeek.com also gave $100 gift certificates to the project volunteers.
“The chance to participate in the restoration of such a legendary aircraft is a privilege and one of the proudest accomplishments of my career,” said Perkin in the release. “I’m thrilled to be one of the detailers chosen to participate in a project of this magnitude.”
Perkin is owner of Scotty’s Shine Shop, noted the release. The International Detailing Association (IDA) chose the shop as Detail Shop of the Year 2014 in January.
