VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — A recent profile in The Virginian-Pilot features the story of Lou Spellos, owner of Squeeky Clean Mobile Car Wash & Detailing.
The Nov. 10 story reveals how Spellos, who was named the 2013 Most Valuable Carwasher by Professional Carwashing & Detailing, got started in the industry.
One day, he said in the story, my son goes, 'How about we try this?' So we went up to a detailing clinic in Pennsylvania, and we got hooked.
Spellos said in the story there are 1,000 things you can do to properly detail a car. "My car washing prices start at $40. My detailing, it depends on the vehicle and the condition, but the price starts at $95 for cars and $150 for large SUVs. That includes cleaning the whole car, inside and out, and waxing it….On the outside, I can use a clay bar. It’s looks like a bar of soap, but it’s resin-based. What this thing does after you wash the car is pull out all of the contaminants. There’s also a product called Iron X that gives you a deeper cleaning between the pores of the paint,.
For the inside, Spellos said he uses a steam vapor machine.
Spellos also said he's here to help out those just getting started in the industry. "Beginners, whoever needs help, we try to help them. Good detailers are always looking to get better. …Eventually, we want to have courses in high schools and colleges," he said in the story.
Spellos also revealed in the story that he doesn't consider his job to be "work." "But this is not work," he said in the story. "Really, my biggest regret in life is that I didn’t find this career when I was in my teens. This is just one person who’s happy with what he’s doing in life."
