ROCHDALE, England — Fred Lumu began his own carwashing business after emigrating from Uganda to England nearly 14 years ago, according to rochdaleonline.co.uk.
When Lumu arrived in his new home, he had a basic knowledge of English. He put himself through college and earned qualifications in English and math, said the article.
Lumu gained managerial experience working for another carwash company. With financial and practical help from Prince’s Trust, which supports young people through education and financial opportunities, Lumu opened Happy Car Wash, noted the article.
Lumu recently signed a 10-year lease with the Rochdale Shopping Center where his carwash is located.
He has spent the past year traveling as an ambassador for Prince’s Trust, telling young people about his experience starting his own business.
