‘Garish’ carwash looks like a circus tent, residents claim

BURNSIDE, SCOTLAND — Neighbors are upset with the newly repainted Magic Carwash's red and yellow stripes.

BURNSIDE, SCOTLAND — Residents here are protesting the newly painted Magic Carwash, claiming it is garish and looks like a circus tent, the Rutherglen Reformer reported.

The Feb. 28 story said the front of the hand carwash now sports red and yellow stripes.

The carwash was granted permission from the town for the paint job.

Resident John Tonner said in the story, ”I walked up to the shops and when I saw this carwash building I was absolutely stunned! They must have painted it in the middle of the night, it is truly appalling! I cannot believe that authorities gave planning permission for this to be allowed. I am stuck for words other than it has brought the tone of Burnside right down.”

Cutting construction costs while keeping up appearance

Burnside Community Council secretary Malcolm Piggott was also shocked. “I can’t think why they’ve painted it these garish colours," he said in the story. "As if it wasn’t bad enough it is right next to our Welcome to Burnside sign. It is in complete contrast with how Burnside in Bloom are trying to do to improve the look of the area.”

Recently elected Councillor Gerard Killen said he would talk with the owners to see if they can work something out to appease all parties involved.
