GM’s failure to recall vehicles chronicled in TV special

DETROIT — There have been 13 deaths and 51 accidents linked to General Motors faulty ignition switch which GM is accused with covering up rather than addressing, according to a press release.

DETROIT — Following the bankruptcy crisis, General Motors has a new crisis on its hands, a faulty ignition switch in several of its vehicles, which has been linked to 13 deaths, according to a press release.

CNBC is featuring an hour-long documentary titled “Failure To Recall” about the defective ignition and the subsequent cover-up by GM.

The defect led cars to “suddenly stall, making it difficult to steer and brake, while also disabling the airbags,” it states in the release. The vehicles are still on the road until GM can replace the 2.6 million cars that need a new ignition, leading many to question the safety of that decision.

The special, which airs 10 p.m. ET on May 18, explores the controversy involving GM covering up the defect, and who knew about the safety issues involved, and when.
