MILWAUKEE — Wash Express is relocating its business after 23 years in the same location, according to DNAinfo.com.
The hand wash is moving 1.5 miles away from Wicker Park to Humboldt Park, said the article. It will merge with Xtreme Clean Hand Car Wash. The last day at its current location is Dec. 31.
Wash Express opened in 1991 and employs eight people, noted the article. One of owner Sam Talarico’s reasons for moving his business is higher rent, which recently rose to nearly $6,000 per month.

“When I opened here, the neighborhood was very tough, but I liked it,” said Talarico, in the article. “Rent used to be very cheap.”
A local developer has purchased the wash’s site “as part of a $5 million deal that includes several buildings and an empty lot,” stated the article.The developer is planning to demolish the carwash building.
One customer shared in the article that he will follow Talarico’s business wherever it goes, reported the article.
