AUSTIN, Texas — John Stossel, a 19-time Emmy winner and highly respected journalist who has earned a reputation for asking hard-hitting questions — and offering the tough truth ¾ will keynote the SCWA Convention during the Opening Session on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, according to a press release.
Hailed by The Dallas Morning News as “the most consistently thought-provoking TV reporter of our time,” he is the host of Stossel on Fox where he highlights “current consumer issues with a Libertarian point of view.”
He is best known for being the former co-anchor of 20/20, the release noted.
Stossel began his career as a business-bashing consumer reporter calling for government regulation, the release stated, but when he saw regulation fail, he began reporting on the things that free markets create: prosperity, innovation, choice and freedom.
John Stossel joined Fox Business Network (FBN) in 2009, the release added.
He is the host of “Stossel” (Thursdays at 9 PM/ET), a weekly program highlighting current consumer issues with a libertarian viewpoint, the release stated, and he also appears regularly on Fox News Channel (FNC) providing signature analysis.
Prior to joining FBN, the release continued, Stossel co-anchored ABC’s primetime newsmagazine show, 20/20, where he contributed in-depth special reports and recurring segments on a variety of consumer topics, from pop culture to government and business.
His “John Stossel specials” ask tough questions facing Americans today, according to the release: “Sick in America delved into the debate between private vs. government health care; Stupid in America” exposed the government school monopoly; “John Stossel Goes to Washington” revealed government growth under both parties, while “Hype” exposed media distortions.
Stossel has received 19 Emmy Awards and has been honored five times for excellence in consumer reporting by the National Press Club, the release added; other honors include the George Polk Award for Outstanding Local Reporting and the George Foster Peabody Award.
