KANSAS CITY, Mo. — According to www.fox4kc.com, a man who poured concrete down the drain of a carwash has been identified.
The unusual case of dumping shut down the business, located at Longview Rd. and Winchester Ave., since the dumped concrete blocked up the drain, the article continued.
“This is a problem we’ve had before where people around the city, they do a cement job, and they clean out the cement mixers in the city drains,” Alan Ashurst, illegal dumping investigator, said. “When that stuff dries, now you’ve got these big globs of concrete.”
Surveillance images showed that a man drove a truck and cement mixer into one of the carwash bays, rinsed out the mixer and dumped the concrete down the drain, the article noted.
After the images appeared on FOX4, a tipster called the city’s 513-DUMP hotline with a license plate number that led investigators to one Melvin Jordan, who faces a $1,000 fine for illegal dumping, the article noted.
“People are opportunists,” said Dennis Nash, the carwash owner. “I think when it happens, they don’t really care. But once they get caught, yeah, it matters then.”
Nash said he is working with Jordan to clear the drains from all his carwash bays, as none can be used due to the cement clog, the article added.
Nash said he deals with illegal dumpers constantly, but it’s the first time someone’s mess has shut down his business, the article concluded.
