Mild drought conditions lead to expectations of reduced carwashing

JACKSBORO, Texas — There are three levels of drought for Jacksboro, mild, moderate and severe. Presently the city is in mild drought conditions, according to the Jacksboro Newspapers News.

In the mild stage of the drought contingency plan, the city of Jacksboro is expected to reduce water consumption by 10 percent.

In this first stage, which is voluntary, residents are expected to reduce carwashing and lawn watering to once every five days, according to the article.

The owner of Tiger Wash, Gary Oliver, said carwashes are a water saving alternative to at-home washing. A study by the Southwest Car Wash Association reported that commercial carwashses use around one-third the water used at an at-home wash.
