Multi-million dollar development includes carwash

COURTENAY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA — The strip of businesses calls for six carwash bays and an RV wash.

COURTENAY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA — A multi-million dollar development here will include a self-serve carwash that will include an oil-change facility, according to the Comox Valley Echo.

The June 19 story stated that the development would also include a c-store, a gas bar, a full-serve restaurant and stores. The businesses would be located on a vacant 3-acre site.

The whole development would feature a row of four separate structures that provide nearly 22,000 square feet of space. The carwash would house six covered carwash bays as well as one taller bay for washing RVs. Two additional bays in the building could offer oil changes or similar services.

The people behind the development, Muriel and Steve McKay, have 15 years experience owning and operating a similar auto and service business in Alberta. They bought the land to create “an exciting, modern and interesting development.”

“This will not be like a typical gas bar or carwash,” Muriel McKay said in the story. “I love design, I have a passion for it, so I want to create something really interesting that adds to the community.”

City councillors unanimously agreed to give notice to adjacent property owners and let them know they would vote whether to approve the project on July 3. Planning staff recommended a development permit with variances subject to public input.
